What is NU TechNet?

Following the Employer Champion award, Bill Saint led an initiative to build a Technicians network. A network run by Technicians, for Technicians 'NU TechNet'.

NU TechNet has a number of functions and is a major part of identifying and driving some of the Technician Commitment initiatives. On the 19th May 2016, an event was held in the Baddiley Clark Building to launch a technicians’ network organised by Bill Saint, Technical Manager from the Institute for Cell & Molecular Biosciences.

On the day the following three guest speakers presented to an audience of 9 8 technicians:
Dr John Hogan, Newcastle University Registrar - 'Technical staff - some comparisons across research universities'.
Natalie Kennerley, University of Sheffield - ‘How TechNet has been successfully implemented at the University of Sheffield and its place within the nationally HEFCE funded Technical Development and Modernisation programme’.
PVC Professor Chris Day - ‘How I have viewed the importance of the technician - from PhD to PVC’.
Following the success of this event; NU TechNet was established across the university. NU TechNet events are held three times a year. The Oct 2017 event had our largest attendance so far with 117 technicians attending from each Faculty within Newcastle University.
